We would like to congratulate the following students for their recent achievements at the District 17 Florida Bandmasters Association Solo & Ensemble Festival:
The Raines Platinum Vikettes (dancers) & the Raines Spinning Divas (color guard) participated in the district solo & ensemble evaluation and both squads received SUPERIOR ratings! In fact they both received “A” ratings in all three categories: Repertoire, Excellence & General Effect. An “A” with Superior Ratings is the highest level obtainable! This is a great accomplishment for our bands auxiliary.
The district solo & ensemble evaluation is held annually by the Florida Band Masters Association (F.B.A.). The F.B.A. was founded in 1936 and merged in 1966 with the Florida Association of Band Directors. The mission of the F.B.A. is to promote and support band programs in the state of Florida by providing opportunities for in-service growth, program evaluation, and student performance. This is the largest and most important organization for grade school music programs in the state.
The Raines Platinum Vikettes were founded in 1970 by Dr. Milton Threadcraft they are the oldest high school dance squad in the city and one of the oldest in the state. The Raines Spinning Divas was also founded in the early 1970s. Both squads were led by Mrs. Gail Holley for 29 years before Mr. Wilfred Reddick, a 1998 graduate of Raines took the leadership of the squads 10 years ago. Mr. KuRonde’ Washington has been the band director since 2009.
